Where to stay

Accommodation and Camping

Along with some excellent terrain and mouth-watering restaurants, Mt Hotham has a variety of accommodation to choose from.

If you’re attending the festival, you will need to organise your own accommodation. Below are some ideas of where to stay on and off the mountain.

VBCF have no financial relationship with any of these accommodation providers. This information is supplied to help you with your planning for the festival. Feel free to contact us for additions or updates.

Camping at JB Plain

If you’re thinking of camping out during the festival, the primo ‘above snowline car camping’ option is at JB Plain. This is on the Great Alpine Road between Hotham Village and Dinner Plain (closer to the Dinner Plain end). This is within the Alpine National Park. Please ensure you take all rubbish with you. Permits are not required.

There are approx 10 car spots to park on the side of the road. Please be aware that there is only limited spaces so use them wisely, and make sure you’re safely off the road or carpool if possible.

It’s a short walk into the trees, which provide many sheltered spots for camping.

There is a hut, but Parks Victoria prefers people to camp outside if staying at JB Plain.

There is also a simple ‘outhouse’ toilet.

JB Plain is only a 2km ski to Dinner Plain, where there is a public shelter, toilets, and a number of options to get food including the High Plains Hotel, DP Hotel and Elements (Club Wyndham).

The Biathlon building at Whisky Flat (also referred to as ‘The Moth’) and the new Loch Car Park building also offers public shelter, toilets and hot showers. We believe the opening hours are 7am - 7pm but don’t hold us to that. Call Mt Hotham Visitor Services team 03 5759 4011 for more details.

If you park your car at Dinner Plain, there is a resort bus that runs from Dinner Plain to The General and Hotham Central. You will need a bus pass which can be purchased online. Tickets and timetable available here: https://www.visitdinnerplain.com.au/getting-here/bus-service/bus-to-hotham/.
